Maybe you have seen a lot of those augmented reality sandboxes before, but I assure You that this table is way better than everything you get in touch with before. The reason for this is a very high framerate and fast calculation. The project was done entirely in Unity 3d.

The general Idea about a interactive sandbox is already old. You hook up a projector with a microsoft kinect and place it above a sandbox. If you change the sandtopology the projection will adjust accordingly to the new topology, thanks to the height information of the kinect.


The principle is very easy. Just take four images from the same position with the surface lit from left, right, top and bottom. Than you can put those images together in photoshop or substance designer like below: (as a short note, this was way before substance created their own normal-node)
